Transparent quartz glass is an acid substance, so it is an excellent acid-resistant material. Except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid, organic acids and inorganic acids of any concentration can hardly etch transparent quartz glass even at high temperatures.

As an acid-resistant material, transparent quartz glass is superior to all acid-resistant metals and alloys, and it is also superior to general organic acid-resistant materials. The resistance of transparent quartz glass to acid is 1-3 times higher than that of opaque quartz glass:

Quartz glass is less resistant to the chemical action of alkalis and alkaline salts. This is because it can form soluble silicates, so quartz glass is not suitable for use in strong alkaline media.

Since quartz glass is an excellent acid-resistant material, it has been widely used in chemical laboratories, and sometimes it can even partially replace glassware. In the Ministry of Chemical Industry, quartz glass is used as an acid-resistant material to manufacture acid-resistant equipment and glass containers. In the past, due to the relatively expensive price and few applications, with the industrial production of quartz glass in China, the price has generally decreased, and it should be vigorously promoted in the future.
